St. Stephen’s is active in Community Service!
The St. Stephen's Outreach team provides opportunities for parishioners to share their spirit of community service with each other, and to share God's abundance with our greater community.

GIVE 2 THE TROOPSMonthly Donations
"Red Bins" Collection:  Each month, we collect items in the red bins in our church and chapel entryways. 

This is an ongoing opportunity to support programs such as the Ronald McDonald House pantries, GIVE2THETROOPS, and University Street Ministry.

Ministry Details

Multifaith WorksAIDS Care Team

  • Befriending and supporting a family or individual affected by AIDS
  • Managed by Multifaith Works, which trains, supports and supervises a network of over 40 church-based care teams.
  • Task:  Teams of 8-12 fellow parishioners work in pairs.
  • Commitment: Initial training, periodic visits with "care partner", and monthly team meetings. This is a long-term obligation.
  • Time: 5+ hours monthly, including team meetings.
  • Location: Care partner's residence, always in the Seattle metro area.

University Churches Emergency Fund

  • Providing emergency help to poor and homeless
  • UCEF provides one-time assistance (bus passes, rent, utility payments).
  • Tasks: 
    • Work in the office or interview applicants for assistance.
    • Run drives to collect personal hygiene items, socks, and other supplies for distribution. 
  • Time:   Shifts available: Tues, Thurs, Fri, 10:30am-12:30 pm
  • Location:  4515 16th Ave NE. (University District)

Noel HouseWomen’s Shelter at St. Mark’s Cathedral

  • Providing a safe overnight place for women in crisis. 
  • The women's shelter at St. Mark's is an outreach program of Noel House.
  • Task:  Prepare and serve breakfast.
  • Commitment:   Short- or long-term.
  • Time:  Overnight or early morning.

Organizing Food BasketsSand Point Community Housing

  • Low-income housing and other resources for families in NE Seattle
  • Tasks:
    • Serve on Interfaith Board which supports SPCH, or in resource room for families.
    • St. Stephen's Parish provides welcome baskets, holiday food baskets, and gifts at Christmas.
  • Time:  Varies depending on tasks or responsibilities.
  • Location:  6940 62nd Ave NE in Magnuson Park.


Cloud 9 Consignment Shop

  • Funding grants to the poor and helpless locally and internationally
  • Run by St. Stephen's Episcopal Church Women since 1959.  In 10 years, Cloud 9 has given over $140,000 to the Parish and $80,000 to the Diocese, as well as funding other projects.  Visit their website at www.cloud9consign.org.
  • Tasks:  Variety of jobs available, including retail sales, inventory, and bookkeeping.
  • Commitment:  Short- or long-term, at least several months duration.
  • Time:  Flexible hours in agreement with the shop.
  • Location:  6518 Roosevelt Way NE, Seattle

Christmas Giving TreeSeasonal Opportunities

  • Thanksgiving Meals for Homeless:  Prepare and serve meal with Mt. Zion Baptist.
  • Christmas Giving Trees: Promote collection of gifts and deliver gifts to participating local agencies.
  • Easter, Thanksgiving, and Welcome baskets: Promote collection of items and deliver to Sand Point Community Housing
  • Time:  A few hours at the holidays. Welcome baskets usually done in the spring.
  • Location:  Drop off items at church.  Deliver items & serve at local agencies.


Teen FeedTeen Feed

  • Serving homeless teens a delicious dinner
  • Teen Feed is part of University Street Ministries.
  • Tasks:  A team of 3-5 volunteers makes a meal of baked garlic chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, a vegetable, vegan soup and brownies. A 2nd team of 4-6 serves an average of 50 teens and cleans up.
  • Commitment: About 3 hours a month.
  • Time:  First Monday of each month:
          4:00-6:30 PM (Cooking)   
          6:30-8:30 PM (Serving)
  • Location: University Lutheran Church, NE 50th & 16th NE.

Teen FeedNoel House

  • Serving an evening meal to about 65 women.
  • Noel House serves homeless women with transitional housing and assistance in moving to self-sufficiency.
  • Task:  A team of 3-5 prepares a meal off-site and serves it at Noel House.  Separate teams could prepare and serve the meal.
  • Commitment:  An afternoon / evening, monthly or quarterly.
  • Time:   About 3 hours each for cooking and serving.  Cooking could be done on a separate day.

Children's Hospital FamiliesRonald McDonald House

  • Serving an evening meal to families in residence at Building C at Children’s Hospital
  • Task:  A team of 3-5 prepares, serves and dines with families (about 25 people), including their children in treatment at Children's Hospital.
  • Commitment:  Usually monthly, no less than quarterly.
  • Time:   3:00-7:00 PM with dinner served at 5:00 PM.
  • Location:  5130 40th Ave NE, Laurelhurst.
