Sunday School News:
|
As school start approaches, so does the beginning of the Sunday School year. There are many exciting changes and events afoot, and I have been meeting with our rector to envision the way forward for our children's program. Most importantly we will spend the year celebrating our youth's (and families) role in the life of the church.
Watch your weekly email update from St Stephens for more details from Stephanie.
Upcoming events:
Sept 12: Children /Youth service: this will be the official kick off of our program year. All ages will participate in the service this day, with roles in the service for children of all ages and a special focussed youth sermon by Stephanie. We will share fellowship as a whole family this day. We will also have registration and "meet the teachers". Please make every effort to attend this Sunday to fully celebrate the youth of our parish!
Oct 3: Feast of St Francis: a special "music Sunday" joint Sunday school with Les Martin and Catherine Phillips leading our children in a special offertory anthem.
We are also planning special "Safeguarding God's Children" training for our teachers and volunteers as well as expanding Godly Play to the older ages. Our new classroom renovations are complete and beautiful! Come by and see them when you are there Sunday.
I will send another email to update you on our teachers and hopefully a family social event coming soon.
Enjoy the waning days of summer, see you in church soon!
As always, if you want to receive email updates, just email me.

At St. Stephen's Sunday School we strive to:
|
Sunday school classes meet weekly from mid-September until mid-June. During the program year, this is the Sunday morning schedule:
8:00 am - Holy Eucharist
9:20 am - Adult Forum*
10:30-11:15 am - Sunday School
10:30-11:45 am - Holy Eucharist
Children are divided into the following multi-age classes:
Students can be dropped off at their classroom before church. Teachers are teamed so that each classroom has 2 or 3 teachers. A light snack is served towards the end of the class. We will bring them into the sanctuary to join you at about 11:05. They will arrive in time to take part in the Eucharist.
We welcome new children at Sunday School throughout the year. Please download this enrollment form and bring it with you to the Sunday School teacher on the first Sunday that you bring your child to class.
* If you would like childcare during the Adult Forum, you may bring your child to the nursery.

About Our Curricula Godly Play The goal of "Godly Play" is to teach children the art of using religious language - parable, sacred story, silence and liturgical action - to help them become more fully aware of the mystery of God's presence in their lives. |

| Seasons of the Spirit: Pre-K through 1st Grade We use the "Seasons of the Spirit" Lessons in grades pre-K through 1st. This curriculum follows the lectionary, so that your children will work with the same scripture that you do on any Sunday. The lessons are story-based, with group discussions strongly encouraged, as are hands on arts and crafts opportunities and music. |
